Riley's 2nd Birthday - Princess Cake

You'd think by now, I would have plenty of practice making cakes covered in fondant and working with gumpaste.  This is my 5th attempt and there is so much to learn - especially when transporting a 3-tiered cake over 40 miles away.

The cake made it in one piece, but not without a few minor upsets.  The 2nd-tier's fondant cracked a little, and the 2nd and 3rd tiers slid forward a bit as you'll see by the pearl boarders on both.  One thing I learned is not to use my pan with the well in the middle for fillings as it does not hold up well under the pressure of an additional tier.  Live and learn.

I did, however, enjoy making this cake for my cousins little girl.  I only wish it would have been perfect.

Katie's 10th Birthday Cake & Orlando's 40th Birthday Cake

I wasn't quite ready to do another cake, but my niece asked me to make her one for her birthday.  Of course, I couldn't say no.  My niece and brother share the same birthday, and my sister asked if I would put one together for him also.  So... 2 cakes for Saturday August 14th.

Orlando's 40th Birthday Cake:

I had a little trouble with Orly's cake.  It was still warm when I put the second layer on and the cake was so moist it cracked.  My sister helped me to disguise it a little with gold shimmer dust, but you can still see it.  Oh well, all that matters is that he liked it and enjoyed eating it.

Jaxon's 3rd Birthday - Ghostbuster's Fondant & Gumpaste Cake

I made this cake for, my grandson, Jaxon's 3rd birthday.  He's the pride and joy in his "Honey's" eyes.  I love him so much.

This is my second attempt of decorating cakes using fondant and gumpaste.  I did a lot better this time mixing the colors into the fondant.  You definitely learn to do a little more with each try.

Jaxon wanted a Ghostbuster themed birthday cake.  On the cake you'll see Slimer, Ray, Winston, the car, Stay Puft man, and several different ghosts along with the ghostbuster logo.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Alexa's Princess Cake

I've been trying my hand at making cakes using gumpaste and fondant.  This is my first fondant cake.  I made it for my niece, Alexa's 4th birthday.  My niece is very particular about what she wants and told me her cake had to have ladybugs, roly poly's and "Larry the Lizard".

Towers were not attached in this photo.

There's Larry the Lizard

I wish I would have put some decorative flower or gumpaste cutout to cover the few places where the color and fondant were not incorporated well.

Gumpaste flowers were made without the use of tools.  I found some great videos on YouTube to help make these flowers.
